Where should I place my Human Touch chair?
Place your Human Touch® chair in a comfortable, accessible indoor location where you can use it regularly and operate it safely.
Customers commonly place their chairs in living rooms, bedrooms, home offices, wellness rooms, or entertainment areas. Regardless of the room selected, the chair must have adequate space to recline and extend without contacting walls, furniture, or other objects.
Choose a safe location
Place the chair:
- Indoors on a flat, stable surface
- Near a properly grounded electrical outlet
- Away from direct sunlight and other heat sources
- In a clean, dry environment
- Away from excessive dust and moisture
- Where the chair’s air openings will remain unobstructed
- Where children and pets cannot enter the chair’s movement path
Do not use or store the chair outdoors.
Allow enough space around the chair
Before operating the chair:
- Leave at least 24 inches of unobstructed space in front of the chair for the footrest.
- Provide the required clearance behind the chair so it can recline without contacting a wall or other object.
- Remove obstacles from behind, in front of, and underneath the chair.
- Confirm that the chair can complete its full range of movement safely.
Required rear clearance varies by model. Some wall-hugger models require only a few inches, while other chairs require substantially more space.
Review your product’s Use and Care Manual for its exact dimensions and clearance requirements.
Protect hard flooring
If the chair will be placed on wood, tile, laminate, or another hard surface, place a soft mat or piece of carpet beneath it to help protect the floor.
A minimum mat size of 48 by 28 inches may be suitable for some products, but chair dimensions vary. Select a floor protector large enough to support the entire base of your specific chair.
Avoid damaging environmental conditions
To help protect the chair:
- Do not expose it to direct sunlight for extended periods, as this may cause fading or upholstery damage.
- Do not use or store it in extreme temperatures.
- Allow a chair stored in cold temperatures to remain at room temperature for up to 48 hours before operating it.
- Do not operate it near aerosol spray products or where oxygen is being administered.
- Keep ventilation openings free of lint, hair, dust, and other obstructions.
Storing the chair
If the chair will not be used for an extended period:
- Turn it off and disconnect it from the electrical outlet.
- Coil the power cord safely.
- Cover the chair to protect it from dust.
- Store it indoors in a dry, temperature-controlled environment.
Always follow the placement, electrical, operating, and storage instructions provided in the chair’s Use and Care Manual.
